Lebanese civil war reloaded

Rocket

Did you or your parent keep any souvenir from the last civil war in Lebanon? Well my parents did! The small object in the picture above is the remaining of a rocket that hit our house in 1984.

There has been a lot of talks about another civil war in the few coming month! and today I heard from a friend, that once a second government is announced, a civil war will be declared and Beirut will be ruled by different militias. To my knowledge the only existing militia is Hezbollah (I don’t think one can call it a militia though), so this means that other militias such as the one of the Future movement might hit the ground! Aren’t they the ones that call themselves “the leopards of Tarik Al-Jadida”??

It is kind of complicated how things will go if we will really witness another civil war, as this time it will be Sunnites against Shiites and they both exist in every street of Beirut! I don’t know about other cities…

Anyway, to make a long story short, we the Lebanese people are acting dumb once again…

Sowar Magazine

Sowar Magazine is a bi-monthly journalistic and documentary photography magazine that is distributed free-of-charge in Lebanon. The objective of the magazine is to is to present great photographs along with informative commentary. In layman’s terms, Sowar portrays “pictures that tell a story;” themed shots of people, places, and nature with minimal accompanying descriptive text.

sowar

That’s Sowar Magazine in few words! I saw the first issue a few days ago and I found the presentation quite nice with impressing photos and a variety of themes.

Who has been loving life lately?

Fateh Al-Islam loves life

Having 2 members of the terrorist organization “Fateh Al-Islam” in the frame made this photo PRICELESS!

Note that the “I love live” campaign has been launched late in 2006 by the March 14 alliance, and rumors have been circulating lately about a possible connection between Fateh Al-Islam and the Future Movement who are part of the March 14 bloc.

UPDATE 06/26/2007: The photo turned out to be photoshopped.

Shameless People

An expressive video with a wonderful song that brings back a lot of memory… I couldn’t but watch it over and over several times.

Song by Remy Bandali.

Remote control a computer with a fake IP

Not every computer has a real IP on the internet, actually most of the computers are on private networks and they are connected to the internet through gateways and proxy servers.

I have 3 computer, 2 at home an 1 at work, and I have always thought of a way to remote control them all, now you might suggest nating and stuff… well I suggest getting an account at LogMeIn.com!

With LogMeIn you will sign up for an account, and then use your credentials to sign in on the remote computer to install a small application which will be acting like a server that listens for incoming connection. Once done, you will see that computer in your list of computer in your account.
Now use the same credentials to sign in on another computer, and you will see all the computers on which you installed that application listed in the front page of your account. Online computer will be marked in blue, click on one of them and start working remotely!

The way it works is by letting everything pass through the LogMeIn website it self, once the remote computer is online it will be connected to the website, so your commands and the replies you will get will be passing through the website.

Instructions can be found on the website, but feel free to leave a comment if you need some help!

That’s so retarded!!

They are arabs… but let me know who are they if you have any idea by leaving a comment.

Seeking justice… on billboards

WalidEido

Lebanese MP Walid Eido and his eldest son Khaled were killed in a blast on Wednesday in Beirut. One day later, Beirut was full of billboards asking for justice.

The billboard above says “Walid for justice… Justice to Walid Eido”, well you might find that normal…but do we really need to rent advertising space to ask for justice in Lebanon? I PERSONALLY find that weird…

Rest in peace Walid Eido, Khaled Eido and all of those who lost their lives in the blast.

Do you know what 128GB of RAM looks like?

Well… you have to check the pictures below!

128GB1 128GB2 128GB4

 128GB5  128GB3

This monster was built by Xenon systems for Monash Cluster Computing group. There are 8 dual-core AMD Opterons in there somewhere, running at 2.8GHz each but they’re hard to see as they are burried under 128 Gigabytes of RAM.

It is extremely loud when running, I don’t want that in my room!!

Windows XP Multi Core config

I was surprised today when I knew that a lot of notebooks with Windows XP SP2 installed do not take advantage of their dual core CPU, simply because Windows was not properly tuned fully support the dual cores.

If you own a Dual Core notebook, this tutorial is a must read for you to teach you how to take out the maximum out of what you bought!
