Election in Beirut

An election will be held on August 5 in the second district of Beirut to replace MP Walid Eido.
Main competition is between the Future Movement candidate Amine Itani, and the People’s Movement candidate Ibrahim Al-Halabi. I don’t know why people like the one below are doing campaigns and posting photos with funny poses.

Isn’t cool to have the ability to travel in time… on the internet? I think it is cool to know how Yahoo.com looked like 10 years ago!

It is all possible through the internet archive! I didn’t believe this really exists until I visited it, it is the Wayback Machine.

Check how your favorite websites used to look like, should bring some memories I guess…!

The internet archive currently has  2 petabytes of data, and is growing at a rate of 20 terabytes per month! WOW!

Annahar today

I was reading Annahar newspaper today when I encountered two pictures.

Here is the first picture showing an Israeli soldier aiming at a bunch of Palestinians during a wedding in Al-Khalil.

Notice how most of the people are not giving a damn about the Israeli soldier and are looking in another direction, at something more interesting maybe! Weird… did they get used to such actions?

The second picture is no more than a caricature.

The sign says “The conversation room is closed, check our new room in France”. We can’t even hold a discussion… shall we laugh or cry?

Even though the service has been online for quiet a time, I haven’t signed up for an account until few days ago. With del.icio.us you can store and publish your web bookmarks, and everything you add will be publicly viewable.

I liked how simple it is, I installed the Firefox extension and started tagging web pages that I find interesting or useful to me, they might interest you as well so feel free to check my list of bookmarks at http://del.icio.us/rfayoumi.
