Repairing Outlook personal folder

Few days ago, my colleague at work was encountering a problem while using Microsoft Outlook, her data file which contains all her emails was corrupted and navigating through folders and emails was very hard and slow! The size of the data file was around 4GB so losing it would be disastrous!

Being the guy that usually solves almost any computer related problem in the office, I started searching for a solution and found that there is some useful tool to repair damaged Outlook data files, and you can find it easily on your computer in the following path:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\MSMAPI\1033
There you should find “SCANPST.EXE”, open it and browse for the damaged data file then click “Start” to launch the scanning/repairing process and wait for it to complete. Et Voila! At the end you should have your .pst file accessible again!

Melody tunes

I’m not a fan of the Melody television network, but the latest promotional campaign they did for the new Melody Tunes was a pure success! Check the videos below in case you haven’t seen them yet.

Couple of tools

Have you ever wondered where is your favorite website hosted? well I do sometimes! And finally Who Is Hosting This can answer my question, you can simply enter any domain in the text field and you will get a link to the company that’s hosting this particular domain.

Now what if you had a website on a shared hosting and wanted to know what others websites are hosted on the same server of your website, this is where my IP neighbors comes to give you the answer. Enter your website name or IP and get a list of all your neighbors, you might be surprised by how crowded your server is!

I don’t know if I can call these two websites as “tools”, but they’re good anyway… I guess!

Digital photography software

To those of you who are into photography, *Like Me*, I am posting two nice software for photo editing.

1- Adobe Lightroom 1.2

AdobeLightroom1.2

New Adobe® Photoshop® Lightroom™ software is the professional photographer’s essential toolbox, providing one easy application for managing, adjusting, and presenting large volumes of digital photographs so you can spend less time in front of the computer and more time behind the lens. So you can spend less time sorting and refining photographs, and more time actually shooting them. Its clean, elegant interface literally steps out of the way and lets you quickly view and work with the images you shot today, as well as the thousands of images that you will shoot over the course of your career. Because no two photographers work alike, Adobe Lightroom adapts to your workflow, not the other way around.
Lightroom lets you view, zoom in, and compare photographs quickly and easily. Precise, photography-specific adjustments allow you to fine tune your images while maintaining the highest level of image quality from capture through output. And best of all, it runs on most commonly used computers, even notebook computers used on location

Current tallest free-standing structure!

Dubai Tower

According to press agencies, the Dubai Tower is now 555 meters surpassing Toronto’s CN tower (553 meters)! *WOW* So currently it is the tallest freestanding structure in the world!
Still, the developers Emaar are refusing to reveal the final expected height and they are not wasting their time at all as one storey rises every three days and they. Hats off!

In case you’re wondering about the shape of the tower (like I did), it is inspired by a flower called “Hymenocallis” that is widely cultivated in Dubai and around the region.

Bad news for AT&T!! The exclusiveness of their deal with Apple has been taken away since tutorials to unlock the iPhone became available on the internet! I knew it was coming.

Keyloggers

I came across an excellent article on keyloggers today, how they work and how to detect them. I though it is a must read for both security specialists and end-users.

Article can be found here, it is written by Nikolay Grebennikov the Deputy Director of Kaspersky Lab’s Research and Development team.

This goes for you spammers!

I suffer a lot from spammer, I receive around 100 email everyday promoting Viagra and Cialis through online pharmacies! But today I felt a bit relieved as I was going through the feeds I get everyday and came accross Shane Navratil’s post for spammers. Below is what he wrote to them.

  1. 99% of the people on the planet want to kick your ass.
  2. Seriously.
  3. Learn about ROI. Sure, you hack other people’s networks to send spam and it doesn’t cost you any real cash to send emails and blog comments again and again to places where there is no return on your investment. But it costs you a lot in visibility. And that visibilty and constant annoyance is part of an illegal activity that’s the basis of all your income. So, I can understand that you may be a real risk taker, but taking risks where there is no reward is just plain stupid. Rewardless spamming is visibility you don’t need. It’s visibilty that puts your freedom and your livelihood in jeopardy. It’s a bad return on investment.

And p.s. … I don’t need any Viagra.

But thanks for your concern.
